Home >> About us

We are a new autonomous voluntary organisation working in close collaboration with the national Relatives & Residents Association and awaiting the status of Charitable Incorporated Organisation when this option becomes available.

We exist to provide local information and support to older people, their families and friends on issues relating to residential care and the options.

Ultimately, we endeavour to be a voice for this group of people, representing their needs to the organisations in Essex that are responsible for their wellbeing and quality of life.

We therefore exist to:

  • Improve access to the full range of services available to older people
  • Assist older people, their families, friends and carers to make well informed decisions about residential care and the alternatives
  • Help older people achieve the best possible quality of life following admission to a care home
  • Support owners and managers of residential care homes in dealing with issues affecting the needs, rights and quality of life for individual residents
  • Offer opportunities, training and support to volunteer in a variety of roles
  • Represent the interests of older people living in, or considering living in residential care homes and their respective relatives and friends

Steering the Association

The Steering Group of the R&RA(E) comprises a number of retired individuals dedicated to ensuring the success of the Association. These volunteers form the governing board which oversees the day to day running of the R&RA(E). The governing body is supported by several local voluntary organisations, all of whom have a great deal of experience in helping older people and their families find their way through the mire of information relating to residential care.
